Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 Without BT & ATS Review

The Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter delivers 2000W continuous and 4000W peak surge from a 12V battery. It ships with two 1/0 AWG 3-foot cables, a 16.4-foot wired remote, three AC outlets, a hardwire port, and a 5V/2.1A USB port. There is no built-in Bluetooth and no Automatic Transfer Switch. This is the off-grid-only version of the 2000W tier: capable, certified, and simpler by design.

I set the Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 12V on the bench next to the Renogy 2000W Inverter PUH 12V. The P2 is more compact. Without the ATS circuitry and shore power input, the unit’s internal layout has more room, and it is slightly lighter. The durable metal housing is the same design philosophy as the rest of the P2 lineup. The cooling fans sit behind a recessed grille. The LCD panel is readable from a low mount.

The 1/0 AWG cables included in the box are the right gauge for 2000W at 12V. At full load, this inverter draws roughly 167 amps continuous. 1/0 AWG handles that over three feet without generating meaningful heat in the cable run. I torqued each terminal connection before testing. Loose connections at 167 amps create resistance, heat, and, eventually, failure. Do not skip that step.

What’s in the Box

The package includes two 1/0 AWG 3-foot battery cables, a 16.4-foot wired remote controller, and a manual. This is one of the few 2000W inverters in this price tier that includes appropriately sized cables. The Renogy 2000W Inverter PUH 12V does not include cables. That difference alone can offset part of the price gap between the two models.

The 16.4-foot remote reaches comfortably in most van and truck installs. I ran it to a dash-mounted panel in a test build and had three feet of slack. For the long run, a basic extension cable works. The remote switch is the primary on/off control for day-to-day use.

Outputs and Features

The Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 12V provides three AC outlets, one AC hardwire terminal, and a 5V/2.1A USB port. Pure sine wave output is compatible with inductive loads, including motors and compressors, as well as sensitive electronics. At 4000W peak surge, it handles the start demand of most compressor-based appliances, including a standard mini-fridge, a small window air conditioner, and a sump pump.

There is no built-in Bluetooth. The BT-2 dongle, sold separately, enables Renogy app monitoring. Without it, all status information is visible on the LED indicators and on-unit display. For a workshop inverter, you walk up to it and check it; that is fine. For a camper van built with the inverter under the bed, the dongle is worth the extra cost.

Protection Features

The Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 12V carries UL 458 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 certification. Protection covers undervoltage, overvoltage, overload, over-temperature, and short circuit, with LED indicators for each fault. GFCI protection on the AC outlets is standard. High-speed ventilation fans maintain operating temperature during sustained loads.

The unit supports Li, AGM, SLD, GEL, and FLD battery chemistries. That compatibility matters to builders who run lithium-iron phosphate banks, which are now common in solar van builds. The battery type does not need to match a specific setting; the undervoltage protection thresholds account for differences in discharge characteristics.

Potential Point of Failure

Phantom draw is the primary risk with the Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 12V. At 2000W and 12V, the unit draws current even when no AC load is connected. Left on overnight in a parked van with no load running, it will pull down the battery bank noticeably. Use the wired remote to power the unit off when you are done using it. If you use a solar charge controller, an automatic low-voltage disconnect on the inverter’s DC input is a simple hardware fix that protects the battery from overnight drain.

There is no ATS. Moving between battery and shore power is a manual operation. In a dedicated off-grid build, that is never a problem because shore power is never in the picture. If your use case changes and you start plugging into wall outlets or campground pedestals regularly, swap to the Renogy 2000W Inverter PUH 12V. Do not try to manage an ATS-less unit in a mixed-use scenario long term.

Use Case Recommendation

Choose the Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 12V for a standalone solar shed, a dedicated workshop power station, or an off-grid van or truck build where shore power is not part of the plan. The 1/0 AWG cables are the right size and included. The lower idle draw compared to the Renogy 2000W Inverter PUH 12V makes battery management simpler in a system that cycles on and off with load demand.

For a build that ever plugs into a campground pedestal or a garage outlet, the Renogy 2000W Inverter PUH 12V is the better choice. The ATS handles the switching you would otherwise need to manage manually. That is a meaningful quality-of-life difference in real-world use.

Summary

The Renogy 2000W Inverter P2 12V is a capable, well-equipped 2000W inverter for off-grid builds. The included 1/0 AWG cables, triple AC outlets, GFCI protection, and broad battery chemistry support make it a well-rounded package. Its ceiling is its design: no ATS, no Bluetooth. Know that going in, it is a reliable long-term choice.
